I froze when she touched meat that freshman dance.
I ran when he hand was making its way up my skirt.
I distracted her before she put her hands all over my body before I realized.
I moved my knees over just an inch more that way he would touch me from the driver’s seat.
I blindly made myself forget what she did because she was my friend.
I just had to let it happen to not get murdered.
The many ways the human body reacts
in order to shield itself from receiving trauma is
astounding.

This poem is addressing the realization of the toll that sexual assault has on all aspects of your life. It also touches on the unspoken issues and effects of sexual assault like hypersexuality.
